![]() ![]() What's worse is seeing older cars using after market LED headlights that aren't fit properly to the right shape. There's adequate amount of street lighting if you live in the city and suburbs, but even in rural areas, halogen bulbs are plenty bright to light the roads. I get that LED headlights look cool and they shine bright, but I just hate seeing them at night from other cars with how harsh and blue they look. ![]() Unless car manufacturers find a way that's easy and cheap to replace the LED's, with lower color temperature options, and doesn't cause glare at incoming passengers, I would rather stick to ol reliable halogens. LEDs are objectively better as light sources in nearly every respect.Īgreed, especially the last point. But then again, keep in mind that there are models out there like the current Corolla hatchback and Mazda3 which have full LED exterior lights even on their most basic trim at 20K. ![]() If keeping one rear light incandescent is really THAT important they should make it the reverse light, the least frequently used one, not the frequently used turn signal. They don't need any sort of color tint to get the color we want out of them, something manufacturers should definitely consider before just cheaping out with red rear turn signals at this point in time as well. LEDs just by nature are monochromatic and so they just produce the color we want on their own and only that color (Even white LEDs are just monochromatic blue diodes under a phosphor coating). To get color out of them, we have to pass the light through a color filter so even the 2% of energy that does make it as light is mostly wasted anyway since we filter out almost every other color the filament emits. Incandescent filaments can only produce a single full spectrum color at a particular brightness. And for colored indicator lights, it gets even worse. Before you say you don't care, just as a reminder, the overwhelming of the energy they consume doesn't even go into light we actually care about. Just remember that incandescent bulbs are garbage as light sources. They are an unnecessary burden to a car's electrical system however.
